One reason is that more Japanese women have high-density breast tissue, making detection of the cancer more difficult. The results of our study indicated that screening MMG caused less harm in terms of both the number of false positives and the number of women who underwent an additional imaging study. The cancer detection rate in our study was higher than population-based screening in the USA and Japan.
